Commenting on the report from the Association of Investment Companies (AIC) which has found that many Scottish students struggle with the cost of going to university, Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Jeremy Purvis MSP said:

“We should be aware that the figures for young people from deprived backgrounds that can go to university but don’t, is far too high already.

“These figures simply compound the issue and we may see a two tier class based university system which is neither fair, nor in the interests of the economy.”
