Commenting on the UK Climate Change Committee's launch of its advice to the Scottish Government on meeting emissions reductions targets, Liberal Democrat Climate Change spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:
"I'm delighted that the Climate Change Committee has acknowledged that, while ambitious, Scotland's target of reducing emissions by 42% by 2020 is achievable.
"That target goes further than the rest of the UK, but rightly so as Scotland has unique opportunities to meet it - opportunities such as improving building insulation, promoting renewable energy and maximising the sequestration potential of our peatlands.
"To get to 42% though, it is vital that we take early action. The first set of annual targets will be announced in the next couple of months, so the Government needs to step up and commit to wide-ranging measures aimed at reducing carbon emissions across every sector of the Scottish Economy."
