Commenting on the news that the Scottish Government has cut the grants to housing associations by over six per cent, Liberal Democrat Housing spokesperson Ross Finnie said:
"This cut is very bad news for Scotland's housing associations and won't help in the drive to meet the homelessness target by 2012.
"By cutting the HAG, the Scottish Government is forcing a simple choice. Housing associations either lower the specification of the house, or they build fewer houses. This particularly hits rural areas, where building costs are naturally higher.
"While MSPs are debating the Scottish Government's budget, Scottish Ministers snuck this devastating blow to Scottish housing out by the back door."
