Commenting on the news that the third round of talks between the EU and Norway to set total allowable catches and other fisheries arrangements for shared stocks have broken down without agreement, Liberal Democrat Fisheries spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:
"I highlighted the risks of any breakdown in these talks during last month's debate in the Scottish Parliament.
"Now that this appears to have come to pass, it is clear that the EU Fisheries Council is likely to prove even more problematic and difficult to predict.
"This is all the more reason for SNP Ministers to have a robust game plan going into the negotiations as well as a commitment to work closely with industry and scientists to press this case."
