Alan Reid, Liberal Democrat MP for Argyll & Bute, has written to Defence Secretary John Hutton calling for an urgent review of practices at Faslane following the reports of radioactive leaks from submarines on three occasions recently.
Mr Reid said, "The nuclear submarine base at Faslane brings a lot of jobs to this area, but the base is dealing with very dangerous materials and every possible precaution must be taken.Alan Reid MP: Argyll & Bute
"Scotland's environment watchdog SEPA have stated that the radiological consequences were minor, but I am very concerned that they have also pointed out that the Ministry of Defence had not followed the proper procedures.
"Rather than having reports of these incidents dragged out years later via Freedom of Information requests, the Ministry of Defence should have admitted to them at the time.
"An urgent review of practices at the base is essential to prevent anything like this every happening again."
