Tavish Scott, leader of the Liberal Democrats and Ross Finnie, Liberal Democrat Housing spokesperson are today (Thursday) holding a Housing Summit in the Scottish Parliament.
A panel of experts will attend the summit, including representatives from the Scottish Federation of Housing, Homes for Scotland, the Federation of Master Builders, the Chartered Institute of Housing in Scotland and Shelter Scotland.
Commenting ahead of the summit, Mr Scott said:
"As recession starts to bite, everyday issues like warm, dry, affordable homes become more important than ever. Homeowners worry about their mortgages, the construction industry has slumped and jobs are being lost.
"The Government promised a £100 million injection into affordable housing. Only £9 million has actually been allocated this year and neither Edinburgh nor Glasgow is eligible for a share.
"I am determined that Liberal Democrats don't fall into the SNP's trap of announcing and re-announcing support for the housing sector to grab a quick headline.
"That's why I've invited a formidable panel of experts to a Housing Summit today. I hope that together we can develop real solutions to the problems facing Scots homeowners and tenants today."
